It has been a while since we have blogged. The months and days before the festival and fair are very busy. The volunteers who organize, plan, set up and run the festival and fair are dedicated people. We certainly hope you enjoy the event and thank those who work so hard behind the scenes.
Askov was one of the featured items at a fundraiser for Children's Grief Connection, a non profit located in Willow River. The event featured a jump in the ice cold water in order to raise money for Grief Camp for children and their families. Contributors to the auction items were Pine County History Museum, Little Mermaid Cafe, Creative Co-op, Lenas and Askov Fair Board. Hearts of Hope is the name of the camps so the Danish Hearts were a big hit!

As the end of February approaches and a LEAP DAY as well, we note the new street signs have been posted in Askov. They are red and white ( of course) for the Danish heritage and Askov Fair Board is wondering....who wants to take part in a contest to decipher the correct pronunciation of the street names...in Danish ! who is game??
You may notice a change in our website. That is to be expected as I am the new author of this site. Many thanks to our previous host, Mary Klein, who initiated and designed this site.
The Askov Fair Board is working diligently to bring you yet another fun filled fair and festival. This year's fair promises to include new delights and familiar favorites. Now is the time to sign up to help make this the most memorable fair to date. With over 100 years of celebration, input is always welcome.
Our teen royalty are preparing for their participation in the St Paul Winter Carnival this month. Look for these ladies on tv and press. Keep your eyes open for new information and keep working on those wonderful creations for the exhibit portion of the fair.

Hello Family, Friends and all Fair Goers,
Another wonderful year has come and gone and what a great time it was. We were so thrilled to see all of you enjoying yourselves and participating.
There is so much to report, and so many thank yous to be given, but for now, just a quick few notes:
Volunteers - we are incredibly grateful for the hard work that you commit to each and every year! A special thank you goes out to those who stepped in at the Exhibits when a few volunteers were unable to arrive at the last minute - you recruited help in the blink of an eye. Thank you for staying late with a smile, and thank you to the persons who arrived to fill the shifts. You all did an amazing job!
Exhibit Entries and Lost & Found - there is a lost item at the Community Center, and several Exhibit entries with ribbons that were not collected on August 29. You can pick them up M-F between 8am-4:30pm. All items will be discarded in just a few days if not collected because they are mostly plants and produce. Some are children's items with ribbons and we were sad not to have been able to give the child their prize money.
Feedback - every year we receive feedback from community members, vendors and those working the fair. We truly appreciate this and your thoughts will be presented at the next fair board meeting. Thank you for contributing these ideas.

It's time for the fair! Thank you in advance to all of the volunteers who have graciously stepped in to help yet again this year. We saw your request on Facebook, so here is a copy of the Exhibits Premium List. It's going to be another great year!
We are eagerly getting ready for the 2015 Askov Rutabaga Festival and Fair and can't wait to celebrate with you! There was a small debate about what was considered the "4th weekend of August" which is the weekend the fair is held annually, and it was officially determined that since the first day of August 2015 was a Saturday and did not include a Friday, the fair would be held on August 28 and 29 this year (meeting minutes were reviewed). We apologize for any misprints that were posted on this website and our facebook page and hope it did not cause any problems for your summer schedule.
We received a lot of wonderful constructive feedback from the community after the 2014 fair and determined that this year's theme will be "A Blue Ribbon Event". The Exhibits event is a traditional competition during which the community can make and grow all kinds of items to compete for ribbons and prizes. This includes just about everything except animals - textiles, plants, vegetables, baked goods, wood work, children's entries, etc. A full premium list will be posted in the Askov American Newspaper on April 30th and below, and we encourage EVERYONE to enter something. Plan ahead to grow something in your garden, crochet a blanket, paint a picture, and help your children make or grow ANYTHING to enter into their special category.
Would you like to contribute to the success of the fair?? We are always looking for new volunteers, and this year we need a photographer whether professional or casual, an individual to help with advertising, and a DJ to fill a time slot during the fair. Please use our contact page to send a message if you'd like to help or you can leave a comment. No special skills are required to join so all levels of help are welcome.

The Askov Rutabaga Festival & Fair was a success once again. We begin by remembering the generosity of the businesses whose support of time, energy and resources is so vital to the outcome each year. We appreciate you so much and would not be able to continue if not for your help.
Thanks to each and everyone who volunteered their time with set-up, clean-up and working with the stands. I want to say thank you to the fair board who has tirelessly worked all year long to plan and prepare for the festival. Most importantly, thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the weekend to visit with friends and support our community.
